Sweden joined NATO on March 7th 2024. As a member of both NATO and the EU Sweden will now work through both institutions to enhance Swedish security and provide security for NATO and EU partners.
The EU has been and will continue to be an important part of Swedish security policy. The discussions about the future role of the EU have intensified after the illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia over two years ago.
This seminar will focus on Europe as a security provider and dive into the discussion about a sovereign Europe and strategic autonomy that several prominent European leaders have mentioned. Perhaps in detail most described by Emmanuel Macron, president of the French Republic and Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission.
This seminar will focus on the future of Europe as a security provider, the relationship between NATO and the EU and how they work with each other. The seminar also looks at the European Commission and how the commission has taken a greater role in security policy and how things might change in the area of defence policy in the next commission.
